What is career coaching?

Career coaching is your personalised roadmap to professional fulfillment. I specialise in working with people who want to be happier in their jobs, empowering them to make their current role align more with their values or supporting them to move into work that better aligns with their lives and passion.

Coaching is a collaborative process where we can work to:

  • Help you gain clarity on the direction you want to go in
  • Discover your strengths, values and passions
  • Explore exciting career options that align with your true self
  • Develop a plan to achieve your goals
  • Build confidence and overcome limiting beliefs
  • Navigate finding balance between work and personal life
  • Help you maintain the motivation to make a change

I work with you to shape a discovery and planning process that suits where you are on your path to change, and what you need most from coaching.

Can I benefit from career coaching?

In short, yes. But particularly if you identify with any of the following:

  • You’re unhappy in your job but have NO IDEA what to do
  • You want a promotion or payrise but aren’t sure how to get it
  • You’re a parent returning to work after time off looking after children, looking for a career that fits around your family
  • You have a hobby that you’re passionate about that you’ve always wanted to turn into a career
  • You’ve been working on a side hustle that’s going well but you’re struggling with the confidence to take the leap into making it a full-time job
  • You’ve been in the same career for 10, 20 or 30 years and you know you’re ready to move into something else but you’re unsure whether you can do it
What happens during a career coaching session?

While every coaching session is unique, depending on your specific needs and goals, here’s a broad outline of what you could expect during a typical 60-minute session:

Opening (10-15 minutes):

  • Warm-up and rapport building: We work together to create a welcoming space for open and honest communication.
  • Agenda setting: You collaborate with me to identify the session’s focus and desired outcome(s).
  • Review of progress (if relevant): Discuss your progress since the last session and celebrate wins.

Exploration and discovery (20-30 minutes):

  • Deep dive into your topic: This could involve brainstorming, discussing challenges, clarifying values or exploring career options.
  • Powerful coaching questions: I ask thought-provoking questions to help you gain self-awareness and unlock new perspectives.
  • Coaching tools: If relevant, I may bring some useful models and/or tools into the session, to help facilitate changes in perspective or finding new directions.

Action and goal setting (10-15 minutes):

  • Develop actionable steps: Together we identify concrete steps to move you towards your goals.
  • Accountability partnership: If needed, we agree on a system for accountability and support.

Closing and next steps (5-10 minutes):

  • Summary and takeaways: Brief recap of key insights and actions.
  • Feedback and questions: You share your feedback on the session and ask any remaining questions.

Schedule next session (if applicable): We can plan your next coaching session based on your progress and goals.

Is career coaching expensive?

The cost can vary, and can be quite high depending on the coach and what they’re offering. The good news for you is that I’m also currently working to build up my training hours for International Coach Federation (ICF) accreditation so, depending on your situation, I may be able to offer a small number of free coaching hours.

Do you coach virtually or in-person?

I provide coaching via video call, in-person (if you are in London or can travel there) or by phone. All of these ways work well so it’s down to the client preference.

My career coaching with Heather was outstanding. When we first met I was feeling lost and unsure of where I wanted to go, but by our last session I was feeling confident and was interviewing for roles in a totally different field. I’m also really pleased to say that I now have a new job that I love, and in large part this is down to the amazing coaching and support I received! THANK YOU!
